Two bills regarding how data and security breaches should be handled surfaced Thursday in the New York State Assembly. The Assembly referred both to Consumer Affairs and Protection Committee.

A-1374, sponsored by Assemblymember Jeffrey Dinowitz (D), requires certain business to offer services on mitigation and identity theft prevention in the event of a security breach. Three other Democrats co-sponsored the bill.
A-1157 imposes a five-day time frame after there has been a discovery or notification of a security breach where the breach must be disclosed to anyone whose information was or is reasonably believed to have been leaked. Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara (D) sponsored the bill.
