Va. Privacy Law Needs Update to Account for AI, Says Legislator

Maldonado introduced a bill (HB-2250) earlier this week that would add an AI section and protections for teens, include support for universal opt-out mechanisms and revise other parts of the 2021 Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (see 2501090028)
“Our amendments will focus on updating certain definitions as well as address opt-out mechanisms, geolocation tracking notifications, and provisions related to targeted advertising and the sale of personal data for adolescents between the ages of 13 and 15,” said Maldonado. “These changes will bring Virginia in alignment with current best practices ensuring that we continue to be a leader in technology, innovation, and data privacy protection.”
