Court Denies TikTok’s Motion to Dismiss Nebraska Lawsuit

A Nebraska state court ruled Friday that it has jurisdiction over TikTok, dismissing the platform's motion to dismiss a child safety case. At the Nebraska District Court of Lancaster County, the state alleged that TikTok misrepresented its safety and suitability for minors, and that its data security and privacy practices violate Nebraska’s consumer protection laws.

“We have filed this lawsuit to hold TikTok accountable for deceiving Nebraska parents and children and for the harm TikTok’s deception has caused,” said Attorney General Mike Hilgers (R) in a news release Monday. “We are grateful to the Court for allowing this lawsuit to proceed so that our Office can continue to fight for Nebraskans and protect them from exploitative companies that would do them harm.”
