UK Privacy Agency Supports Government AI Action Plan
The U.K. Information Commissioner's Office Monday welcomed government plans that "turbocharge" AI across the nation during the next decade. Prime Minister Keir Starmer backed a set of 50 recommendations in an AI Opportunities Action Plan aimed at positioning the U.K. ahead of the world on the technology.

AI "has huge potential to transform businesses and public services" and is a priority for the ICO, wrote Stephen Almond, executive director for regulatory risk. "Data protection is essential to realising this opportunity and ensuring that the public can have trust in AI."
The office has already published guidance on emerging AI issues and provides practical support via initiatives such as a regulatory sandbox and collaboration with other regulators in the Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum on the AI and Digital Hub, Almond noted.
