The proposed measure (HD-2135) would provide a private right of action and take “a strong data minimization approach to controlling companies’ data practices and protects consumers’ privacy by default,” said CR. Also, it would ban the sale and use of sensitive data for targeted advertising. The bill's text wasn't immediately available.

“For too long, massive tech companies have freely collected and used consumer data without meaningful restrictions,” said CR Policy Analyst Matt Schwartz.
