“Numerous [Massachusetts] legislators introduced strong comprehensive privacy bills this week,” the Electronic Privacy Information Center blogged on Friday.
EPIC joined Consumer Reports in especially praising a measure (HD-2135) based on a model that the two civil society groups developed (see 2501160057). The proposal, by state Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier (D), “builds on existing state laws and includes data minimization provisions that meaningfully limit the collection and use of personal data,” said EPIC. The group also praised the bill’s sensitive data section and inclusion of a private right of action.
EPIC additionally highlighted the reintroductions of multiple other comprehensive privacy bills by Massachusetts Democrats, including by state Sens. Michael Moore (SD-267) and Cynthia Creem (SD-495); SD-2355 by Sen. Barry Finegold; and HD-2110 by Reps. Andres Vargas and David Rogers.
