Ind. Senate Supports Requiring Age Verification for Social Media

The Indiana Senate voted 42-7 to approve an age-verification bill on Thursday, sending it to the House. The proposed online safety measure (SB-11) would prohibit kids 15 years old and younger from accessing social media unless they have parental permission.

Democrats raised concerns about the measure during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week (see 2501150048). The early weeks of January have brought a blizzard of state bills focused on protecting kids online, including requiring age verification on porn and social media websites (see 2501170053).
