Life science companies should be aware of data-sharing restrictions under DOJ’s new rule banning cross-border data transfers to adversarial countries (see 2501070056), compliance attorneys said Monday.

DOJ’s rule was published Jan.8 in the Federal Register and goes into effect on April 8. Life science companies should know biometric identifiers, human omic data and personal health data are defined as “sensitive” under the rule and could be subject to restrictions, attorneys at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe said.
