The Senate voted 35-5, approving SB-1023, which would ban sale of consumers' precise geolocation data.

In addition, it voted 40-0 for SB-854 and SB-1486. The first bill seeks to stop social media platforms from providing addictive feeds to users it knows are younger than 18 unless it obtains verifiable parental consent first.

SB-1486 would set privacy rules for student personal information and educational records, including by banning school boards and technology providers from using that data for commercial purposes without first obtaining written consent.

Senate committees cleared the bills last week (see 2501300017).
