EDPB Broadens ChatGPT Task Force to AI Enforcement, Creates Rapid Response Team

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) Tuesday discussed enforcement activities concerning the DeepSeek AI chatbot and agreed to extend the scope of its ChatGPT task force to AI enforcement, a spokesperson emailed. The task force was created to encourage cooperation and exchange information on possible enforcement actions conducted by data protection authorities (DPAs) on ChatGPT.

Board members also underlined the need to coordinate DPAs on sensitive matters, and agreed to create a quick-response team, the spokesperson added.

In recent weeks, French DPA CNIL, Italian DPA Garante and the Irish Data Protection Commission have begun investigating DeepSeek, with Garante banning its use in Italy (see 2502030001). The Hellenic Data Protection Authority also announced an investigation (see 2502060018).

In late January, Belgian consumer organization Testachats filed a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority about DeepSeek and noted the DPA would open a probe.
