Okla. Privacy Bill Sponsor Seeks 6-Month Delay in Effective Date
Oklahoma’s possible comprehensive privacy law wouldn’t take effect until July 1, 2026, under a proposed amendment filed Wednesday by SB-546 sponsor Sen. Brent Howard (R).

The initial version of SB-546, which appears to be based on Virginia’s privacy law, included a Jan. 1 effective date. Oklahoma’s Senate Technology Committee plans to weigh the privacy bill and a separate Howard bill on data breach notification (SB-626) at a hearing Thursday.
