South Korea Temporarily Bans DeepSeek Over Privacy Concerns
South Korea’s privacy regulator temporarily suspended DeepSeek on Saturday, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) said Monday.

PIPC said service would resume after changes are made that comply with South Korea’s Domestic Personal Information Protection Act. DeepSeek last week appointed a domestic agent and expressed willingness to cooperate, PIPC said. However, PIPC determined it would take a lot of time to correct the service and decided to suspend it for now, it said.
Several EU data protection authorities are investigating the AI chatbot (see 2502030001). In the U.S., Texas (see 2502140053) and New York (see 2502100024) have banned DeepSeek on government devices.
