Chinese Data Protection Office Fines Illegal Apps for Privacy Violations

China's National Cyberspace Administration has investigated and fined 82 illegal apps it said infringed on personal information rights and interests, it announced. NCA said many people had complained about the apps' undisclosed information collection and use rules, and their failure to provide deletion or correction of personal information misuse in accordance with Personal Information Protection Law.

Problematic apps included programs such as the "open a secret room" and "dynamic wallpaper emperor" apps, the NCA said. The State Internet Information Office said it will boost supervision and management of personal information protection.
