As amended, SB-854 seeks to require social media platforms to conduct age verification and set a one-hour daily time limit for users younger than 16, unless they have parental consent for more time. SB-1486 would set privacy rules for student personal information and educational records. The Senate previously approved the bills, which update the Virginia Consumer Data Privacy Act, on Feb. 4 (see 2502040025).

The Virginia legislature also passed an AI bill on Thursday (see 2502200003). The bills need approval from Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R).
