Amazon Reaches Settlement in Biometric Privacy Case

Amazon and plaintiff Dominic Mayhall announced on Wednesday that they reached a confidential settlement in a case alleging violation of the Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). As part of the settlement, both parties agreed to a dismissal with prejudice of the plaintiff’s claims.

Mayhall’s complaint, filed in October 2021, alleged that Amazon, which provides cloud computing services to Take 2 Interactive Software and 2K Games, violated BIPA by storing and using face scans of users of the NBA 2K17 game without their consent.
