Vt. Senate Panel Clears Kids Code Bill
A Vermont Senate panel narrowed the scope of a kids code bill at a livestreamed meeting Thursday. The Institutions Committee then split 3-2 to clear S-69, with Republicans casting the no votes.

Per the committee’s agreement at a Wednesday hearing (see 2502260071), the approved amendment says a business is covered if it "generates a majority of its annual revenue from online services." However, the panel removed a video games carveout from the previous version of the amendment. The panel kept other exemptions in the amendment aimed at carving out small businesses and financial institutions or data subject to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
After approving the age-appropriate design code bill, senators started a section-by-section walkthrough of a comprehensive privacy bill (S-71). Discussion of that bill is scheduled to continue Friday.
