Ariz. Child Privacy Bill Passes House in Bipartisan Way
Arizona House Democrats and Republicans joined forces to vote 47-11 Monday to approve a bill meant to protect kids’ privacy on social media. The House then transmitted HB-2861 to the Senate.

HB-2861 would require that platforms set high privacy protections as the default setting for minors, allow minors to opt out of data collection and use of their personal information and prohibit targeted advertising to children based on the minor’s personal information other than age and location. The House Appropriations Committee cleared the bill last week (see 2502250017).
While a Democrat, Rep. Seth Blattman, introduced the legislation, it was successful in a House that Republicans narrowly control. In Monday’s vote, 21 Republicans joined 26 Democrats in voting for HB-2861. Republicans cast all 11 of the nays.
