According to the complaints, an unauthorized actor accessed and compromised Globe Life’s IT network in June 2024. The company told the SEC it had experienced a data breach that exposed sensitive information of over 850,000 individuals, the complaints said.
The first suit, filed on Feb. 25 by plaintiff Barbara Buford, alleges that Globe Life’s actions didn't comply with FTC and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines. It also alleges that the defendant owed the plaintiffs duty to protect their private information, among other claims.
The second suit, filed on Feb. 26 by plaintiff Ronald Singletary, alleges the same violations as Buford. “Defendant’s investigation concluded that the Private Information compromised in the Data Breach included Plaintiff’s and other individuals’ information,” Singletary’s complaint said.
