R.I. House Unanimously Passes Student Privacy Bill
The Rhode Island House voted 72-0 Tuesday to pass a student data privacy bill, sending it to the Senate. H-5176 prohibits school districts and educational institutions from accessing or using student location data from personal or school-given devices, with limited exceptions.

“The House has passed this act at least three times that I can think of,” Innovation and Technology Committee Chair Jacquelyn Baginski (D) said on the House floor just before members voted. Her committee cleared the bill 8-0 last week (see 2503060049).
