Md. Bill Establishing State Data Officer Passes House, Moves to Senate
A Maryland bill that would establish a chief data officer for the state passed the House in a unanimous 139-0 vote Thursday and now crosses over to the Senate. It was sponsored by Del. Joseline Pena-Melnyk (D) at the request of the Department of Informational Technology.

HB-807 aims to modernize data governance, and outlines that the governor would appoint a chief data officer to direct the statewide data strategy and policies for managing data, as well as advise the governor and government about data policies, procedures and standards, among other roles.
