EPIC Backs House Democrat’s Privacy Act Inquiry
The Privacy Act needs to be updated to reflect modern technological issues, the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) said Wednesday, backing a legislative inquiry from Rep. Lori Trahan, D-Mass., into the 1974 federal law (see 2503180019).

EPIC is suing the Trump administration over the Department of Government Efficiency’s data-handling activity. “For fifty years, the Privacy Act has stood as a bulwark against the mishandling and political weaponization of personal information held by federal agencies,” EPIC Litigation Director John Davisson said. “But decades of technological change and the current administration’s assault on privacy underscore the urgent need to strengthen those defenses.”
