EFF: States Should Investigate HIPAA Claims at Crisis Pregnancy Centers
Florida, Texas, Arkansas and Missouri should investigate data privacy claims at crisis pregnancy centers in their states, the Electronic Frontier Foundation said Thursday.

Centers in those states have potentially violated Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protections for personal data and made deceptive claims about how the data is handled, EFF said.
The consumer privacy advocate said many centers “have been operating under a veil of misleading promises for years -- suggesting that clients’ personal health data is protected under HIPAA, even though numerous reports suggest otherwise; that privacy policies are not followed consistently, and that clients' personal data may be shared across networks without appropriate consent.”
