The audit will investigate whether the agency is processing personal data in accordance with the requirements of the Personal Data Act and the special rules that apply to the Visa Information System (VIS), the regulator said. The DPA is responsible for ensuring that Norwegian authorities' use of pan-European information systems complies with the country's obligations under the Schengen agreement, it noted.
Schengen is the EU passport-free zone covering 29 European countries that have abolished their national borders and allow free, unrestricted movement.
The VIS is a common visa database that connects all Schengen countries, the DPA noted. Norway's Immigration Directorate is the data controller for the Norwegian part of the VIS, it said.
