Pallone and Schakowsky, ranking member of the House Commerce Subcommittee, said they invited Slaughter to testify in response to President Donald Trump “illegally” firing Slaughter and Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya (see 2503210063). The hearing’s focus is online harm to children.
Pallone and Schakowsky said the firings are an “illegal power grab” that need to be reversed: “Commissioner Slaughter has been a champion for protecting consumers since she was appointed to the FTC by President Trump in 2018, including fighting for people’s privacy, holding Big Tech accountable, and lowering costs for hardworking Americans. We look forward to hearing from Commissioner Slaughter this week.”
