Ga. House Panel Clears Comprehensive Privacy Bill

Georgia’s comprehensive privacy bill marched forward on Wednesday. The Georgia House Technology Committee voted by voice to approve the Senate-passed SB-111, teeing up a potential floor vote soon.

Before the committee voted, sponsor Sen. John Albers touted that the bill is endorsed by tech companies and business groups. Rep. Don Parsons (R) asked sponsor Sen. John Albers (R) if anyone opposed SB-111.

The only opposition came from people who wanted something stronger, replied Albers. But the Republican likes the balance he struck, he said. “I don’t want this to become something on the level of California."

Businesses raved about the bill at a hearing last week. But Democrats and consumer privacy advocates raised concerns that it won’t adequately protect consumers (see 2503190053).
