House Republicans Ask OMB to Help Streamline Cyber Mandates

The Office of Management and Budget should work with Congress to streamline and consolidate numerous cybersecurity regulations at the federal level, House Republicans wrote Tuesday in a letter to OMB Director Russell Vought.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn., and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., led Republicans in asking OMB to help assess regulations like the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act.

They noted the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s estimate that there are “more than three dozen federal requirements for cyber incident reporting alone.” They requested and OMB briefing by April 28. OMB didn’t immediately comment.
