As the upcoming nationwide rollout of electronic patient files occurs, the office's goal is to ensure that no one refuses to use the system simply because she doesn't feel well-informed enough about it. The BfDI has managed to ensure that the principles of confidentiality and data minimization were maintained in the system.
One challenge for this year is to orchestrate the interaction of the EU AI Act and data protection law, the BfDI said. It called for AI training and development in Europe that's compliant with rights. Other DPAs are also grappling with the interplay between the two laws (see 2502200001).
The BfDI received 8,670 complaints in 2024, compared with 7,782 in 2023, across all subject areas.
