Proposed Md. AI Working Group Now Includes Privacy Advocates
Civil society organizations were nearly excluded from a Maryland AI working group, the Electronic Privacy Information Center said Friday. However, consumer privacy advocates will get to join the group under the version of HB-956 that passed the Maryland General Assembly earlier this week, EPIC said.

“While the bill that was voted out of the House failed to allocate any spots in the working group to public interest representatives, the Senate amended the bill in response to extensive civil society pushback,” said EPIC: Now the group will include academics and nonprofits focused on data privacy, civil rights or liberties and consumer protection.
The proposed working group would study AI’s impact on the state and potential regulation. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) must still sign HB-956 before it can become law.
