The May 20 session will center on, among other topics, whether the GDPR has increased Europeans' economic well-being, whether it has been fully implemented, and whether it's had a global impact. GDPR went into effect in May 2018.
There has been a great deal of empirical work, including by economists, on these and other GDPR-related issues, but "this work is a rich academic debate in both Europe and North America, and its conclusions are of interest to both regulators and citizens," CNIL said.
Speakers will include representatives from CNIL, the Treasury, the U.K. Information Commissioner's Office and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
