Hong Kong Privacy Office Updates Guidance on Obtaining Legal Assistance for Complaints
The Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner's Office published an updated edition of its information booklet about getting legal assistance with civil claims under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO).

Under the law, someone who suffers damage due to a breach of the PDPO may be entitled to compensation, the office noted. Those who are eligible can apply for legal assistance from the PDPO as they seek compensation.
The updated document gives an overview of the legal assistance program. The office said it also encourages people to use alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to negotiate out-of-court settlements.
