The CPPA voted 5-0 in March to advance data deletion draft rules to a formal rulemaking. The regulations would implement Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP) as required by the California Delete Act.

The CPPA posted the draft DROP rules in February. At the time, some privacy experts -- including Tom Kemp, before he was announced as the CPPA’s new executive director -- told us that they were closely watching how the agency defines a direct relationship (see 2503050020).

The privacy agency also released a notice of proposed rulemaking Friday.
