Attorneys Recommend Compliance Updates Under New COPPA Rule
Companies should consider taking concrete action to comply with forthcoming changes to the FTC’s Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) rule, compliance attorneys at Paul Hastings said Thursday.

The final rule is set to take effect June 23, but companies will have a year to come into compliance with many of the new provisions (see 2504210025). New annual reporting requirements under the COPPA Safe Harbor program and disclosures about collecting children’s audio go into effect immediately on June 23.
Attorneys recommended tailoring parental consent procedures to reflect the changes, implementing procedures to comply with disclosure requirements, updating information security policies, evaluating “document classification and retention procedures” and verifying compliance with mandatory reporting under the Safe Harbor program.
