The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act requires that companies allow consumers to opt out of data collection, delete personal data and inform consumers whether they process consumer data.
“I have notified several Chinese-owned companies that they must stop violating Texas’s privacy laws and protect Texans’ data from falling into the hands of the [Chinese Communist Party],” said Paxon. “Failure to do so will be met with the full force of my office."
The notification to companies, including TP-Link, Alibaba and CapCut, comes after a previous action against Chinese AI service DeepSeek (see 2502140053). Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) banned DeepSeek on government devices in January (see 2501310045).
