Sponsor Vows Dead Alabama Comprehensive Privacy Bill Will Return
Alabama’s comprehensive privacy bill ran out of time to pass the legislature this year, so sponsor Rep. Mike Shaw (R) is looking toward 2026, he told Privacy Daily Friday. The state legislature adjourned earlier this week.

“I plan to work with interested parties and prefile for next year,” he said in an email. That means he would probably propose a bill by this fall, ahead of the 2026 session, Shaw indicated.
Late in April, Shaw told us this year’s bill (HB-283) might run out of time despite passing the House April 22 (see 2504280036). He noted at the time that it had taken longer than expected to finalize the 2025 measure and that he hoped to get a “good running start” for his 2026 attempt.
