General Counsels Worry About Data Privacy and Security With AI Use

Though general counsels (GCs) worldwide are using technology as they work, including Generative AI, their concerns about data privacy and security and regulatory compliance remain, according to a CSC study.

“AI is here to stay -- but responsible use is key,” said Ian McConnel, chief legal officer at CSC. “GCs are rightly focused on governance, accuracy, and data integrity.

The study found 97% of GCs and legal compliance officers use generative AI at work. However, 65% of them said data privacy and security were potential issues when using AI, though increased levels of criminal activity and fraud remained the top concern. Because of this, "72% of GCs have implemented internal governance policies to manage AI use," CSC said.
