NJ Might Carve Out Securities Associations, Fraud Detection from Privacy Law

New Jersey could add two exemptions to the state’s comprehensive privacy law. The Assembly voted 77-0 on Thursday to approve AB-5017, sending it to the Senate.

The bill would add an entity-level exemption for national securities associations, plus a data-level carveout for insurance-fraud detection activities.

New Jersey’s privacy law took effect on Jan. 15, though a rulemaking by the state attorney general to implement the statute still hasn’t begun.
