La. Senate Unanimously Passes App Store Age Verification, Kids Online Privacy Bills

Louisiana senators voted unanimously for a pair of privacy-related bills on Tuesday, clearing the way for them to reach the desk of Governor Jeff Landry (R).

HB-37 aims to create a duty of care for online platforms with minor users. The Senate passed it with amendments by a 38-0 vote. Similarly, the House approved it on a 99-0 vote on May 6, though the measure will return to the House for another vote with the Senate's amendments (see 2505060066).

HB-570 would impose age verification requirements on app stores before users can download apps, and was passed by the Senate with a unanimous 39-0 vote. It was cleared by the House Commerce Committee on May 5 (see 2505050064), before getting a passing vote of 99-0 by the full House on May 12 (see 2505130015).
