Fla. AG Appeals District Court Injunction on Social Media Kids Ban
Florida AG James Uthmeier (R) on Tuesday appealed a district court decision that would block enforcement of a state social media law that would prohibit kids 13 and younger from creating social media accounts, as expected. The law also requires parental consent for 14- and 15-year-olds before creating social posts and employs age-verification to implement these restrictions (see 2506030057).

The U.S. District Court for Northern Florida ruling -- also on Tuesday -- said the law is likely unconstitutional, but left the door open for other measures to help regulate kids on social media. Judge Mark Walker said he understood the intent behind the legislation.
The appeal in case 24-00438 comes after NetChoice and the Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA) sued the Florida AG over HB-3, claiming it violated the First Amendment and posed privacy concerns (see 2503310040).
