Louisiana Sends Duty-of-Care Legislation to Governor’s Desk

HB-37 would require covered online platforms and videogames to block adults from connecting with minors unless the minor initiates communication. Senators unanimously passed an amended version of the original House bill Tuesday. If Gov. Jeff Landry (R) signs it, the new law would go into effect in March.

It would restrict covered platforms from disclosing or sharing geolocation of a minor with an individual who isn’t the minor’s parent or legal representative. And the platform would need to notify the parent or guardian when a child makes a connection with an adult.
