Democrats File Bill That Set Limits on Collection of Sexual Health Data
Democrats on Wednesday reintroduced bicameral legislation that would set data-minimization standards for the collection and sharing of personal reproductive and sexual health data.

Filed by Sens. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, and Rep. Sara Jacobs, D-Calif., the My Body, My Data Act, would limit data collection and retention to “only what is needed to deliver a product or service.” The FTC would enforce the legislation, which also includes a private right of action.
Sponsors noted the legislation would include entities not covered under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, such as apps, cell phones and search engines.
