More Than 60,000 Sign Petition Against 10-Year AI Moratorium

More than 60,000 Americans have signed a petition asking the Senate to drop a budget package provision that would block states from enforcing their AI laws for a decade, consumer groups said Tuesday (see 2506120083).

Common Sense Media, Consumer Reports, Americans for Responsible Innovation, Accountable Tech, Public Citizen, Tech Oversight California and others launched the petition against the proposed AI moratorium.

“Banning state AI safety laws is not a budget matter and has no place in a budget bill,” said Common Sense Media CEO James Steyer. “On top of that, it is irresponsible and indefensible to leave consumers and kids vulnerable to AI threats.”
