The Digital Services Act (DSA) covers certain aspects of Meta AI, the spokesperson noted. The DSA sets essential standards to bolster fairness, user safety and transparency across the EU's digital environment.

Under the DSA, providers of Very Large Online Platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, must identify, assess and mitigate systemic risks of their services in the EU, the spokesperson said. Such risk assessments are required at least annually, and "must also occur prior to deploying any functionalities that could significantly impact a platform's risk profile."

The EC has received Meta's risk assessment and is carefully analyzing all its relevant documents, the spokesperson added.

The Irish Data Protection Commission, which is the lead data protection authority for Meta AI, is engaging with the company (see 2505220047).
