Florida AG Will Prosecute Chinese Health Company for Cybersecurity Concerns
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) on Monday announced that the state will prosecute a Chinese manufacturer of patient monitors that allegedly is violating the state's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act by recording patient data and sending it to "entities controlled by the Chinese Communist Party."

Uthmeier alleges the company, Contec, also omitted facts about security vulnerabilities of the monitors, saying that they were FDA-approved when they were not. In addition, Contec is selling a product that contains "a backdoor" that allows bad actors to "manipulate data" ... without the patient or provider's knowledge" and "automatically" transmit it "to an IP address owned by a university in China."
