Privacy Daily provides accurate coverage of newsworthy developments in data protection legislation, regulation, litigation, and enforcement for privacy professionals responsible for ensuring effective organizational data privacy compliance.

Cutting red tape and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) tweaks are among the top priorities, its work program noted.

European Commission proposals to simplify and reduce regulatory burdens "will be a central priority," as will the fourth EC omnibus package that introduces the new business category of small-cap companies as well as GDPR amendments (see 2505210007).

Another priority is to make it easier for law enforcement to use data to fight serious crime, while addressing the misuse of new technologies for criminal or harmful purposes. Denmark also wants to boost Europe's digital competitiveness and tech sovereignty while keeping minors and young people safe online, it said.

From the Digital Omnibus proposal expected in the Fall, negotiations on GDPR amendments and cybersecurity certification to discussions on child online protection and possibly data retention, "the Danes will have to steer Europe through a simplification exercise" while strengthening the digital rule book on select issues, Roccia said.

Separately, the EC held an "implementation dialogue" Tuesday on EU data policy, including the Data Act, Data Governance Act and Open Data Directive, to see how polices could be streamlined.

The discussion will inform work on the Digital Simplification Omnibus, due later this year, and will also feed into the EU’s Data Union Strategy, the EC noted.
