The airline must now act quickly to assess whether the incident qualifies as an eligible data breach and, if so, formally notify OAIC within 30 days.

The OAIC website contains information on data breach support and resources and how to respond to a data breach notification, the office noted in its statement.

Qantas confirmed the data breach Wednesday and said the system is now contained.

The airline said it's contacting customers to notify them of the incident, apologize and provide details on available support. The attack didn't affect Qantas's operations or airline safety, it said.
