The religious legislator group supported the so-called App Store Accountability Act, which would require app stores to get parental consent before letting minors download apps. Utah, Texas and Louisiana enacted versions of the app store bill earlier this year, while Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, is pursuing a federal bill (see 2507100046 and 2507080058).

The model bill “will serve as a helpful tool for elected officials across the country as they seek to find creative, bipartisan solutions to protect children from harm online," NACL President Jason Rapert said. "We sincerely hope every state in the country will enact this legislation.”

Alaska Rep. Sarah Vance (R) proposed the model bill, which she described as “a commonsense solution" in a statement in the same news release. “The App Store Accountability Act honors the basic fact that, when it comes to kids, parents know best.” Vance introduced such a bill earlier this year in the Alaska legislature.
