Research Nonprofit TTAM Closes on 23andMe Deal

TTAM Research Institute announced on Monday it had completed the acquisition of biotechnology company 23andMe through its bankruptcy sale, which closed on Friday, according to a document filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Eastern Missouri.

Despite this, on Friday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) filed an appeal with the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on the grounds that the deal violates the California Genetic Information Privacy Act, which requires consumer consent when genetic data is sold (see 2507110046).

A bipartisan group of state AGs originally opposed the sale of 23andMe and its genetic data when it was introduced (see 2506100051 and 2506110047), but a majority ended up approving the deal when TTAM emerged as the buyer (see 2506180018 and 2506200016).

Utah and California said they were disappointed after Bankruptcy Judge Brian Walsh approved the transaction (see 2507010052).
