Dubai International Financial Centre Announces Updated Privacy Law

The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) amended its data-protection law to give data subjects additional rights and protections, it announced Wednesday. The amendments became effective Tuesday.

The changes introduced a private right of action in DIFC courts for individuals whose personal data was processed in violation of the data protection law, it said.

The amendments also clarified the law's scope and extraterritorial reach, and updated provisions on data sharing regarding the adequacy decisions needed to enable third countries to receive personal data from the DIFC.
