CDT Blasts Reported Data-Sharing Deal Between HHS and ICE
The Department of Health & Human Services “betrayed the trust of almost 80 million people” by agreeing to share healthcare data from Medicaid participants with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Center for Democracy & Technology said in a statement Thursday.

CDT cited a report from the Associated Press alleging ICE officials struck an agreement with HHS to access data from nearly 80 million Medicaid enrollees. The AP said it obtained a copy of the agreement.
“This jaw-dropping development proves that the Administration’s claim of using this information to prevent fraud is a Trojan horse that instead will primarily advance their goal of deporting millions of people,” said CDT Equity in Civic Technology Director Elizabeth Laird. “Over 90 percent of entitlement fraud is committed by U.S. citizens, underscoring the false pretense of sharing this information with ICE.”
HHS didn’t comment.
