Bonta responded to media reports that the Department of Health & Human Services agreed to share the healthcare data of 80 million Medicaid participants with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (see 2507170042). California earlier this month led a multistate coalition suing HHS for providing individuals' health data to the Department of Homeland Security.

The Trump Administration “appears to have entered into a new illegal data-sharing agreement with ICE,” said Bonta. “We are moving quickly to secure a court order blocking the sharing of this data for immigration enforcement. The President’s efforts to pull personal, private, and unrelated health data to create a mass deportation machine cannot be allowed to continue.”
